Chinatown, Chicago
My collection of street photographs set in Chicago’s Chinatown reveal the neighborhood’s sidewalks and community. Chinatown is a place that contains both locals and visitors who come to the many shops. I first came to Chinatown in 2023 and saw the potential for a photography series. I took inspiration from compositions by Vivian Maier, Fan Ho, and Robert Frank.
My images are created to embrace the area’s busy walkways and occasional gritty appearance. This was my artistic decision to contrast the picture-perfect look seen on social media. I wanted to share my visual experience of someone who appreciates everything the neighborhood has to offer. I enjoy their food businesses, arcades, and impressive museum when I don’t have my camera.
